If you’re too worried about what everyone else thinks, chances are you’re probably sleeping on yourself. That’s the core message of August Roads’ new video for ZZZ, an uplifting anthem for anyone out there who needs a reminder to put themselves first for once.
Fittingly, the visuals center on Roads as he delivers super-catchy vocals in a dream-like state while floating above everyone who’s sleeping on him. But does he care? Not by the look of it, though the Bay Area artist is quick to remind everyone that he too struggles with anxiety and depression. He explains that he’s in a constant battle with himself. For him, music is an outlet he uses to reach others with similar mental health issues, so they can know they’re not alone.
Here’s how Roads summed up both the track and the accompanying visuals: “To me, it’s about how you can’t expect people to like you right away, so you should just focus on yourself. If you are worried that other people are sleeping on you then you are probably sleeping on yourself and not giving yourself attention because you are too busy worrying about everyone else. I wanted the music video to give off that same vibe of being calm and focusing on yourself instead of the people around you.”
