We take a trip down to H-Town to interview Break Dem Boyz Off artist, Tiaramy.
Back in 2013, she dropped a mixtape, There’s Something About Tiaramy, and also starred in a movie, The Holy Spoof, alongside Miss Mykie of BET’s 106 & Park. She recently dropped her new single, “Lovin Me”. You’ll get a lot out of this interview, but for more, check her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Check out the interview below.
the9elements: Did you write Lovin Me based on a personal experience? What can you tell us about that?
Tiaramy: Lovin Me was wrote by Samm and myself. Samm wrote the majority of this track and I filled in. However, we both agreed about the concept. I’ve been in love with street dudes who just could not understand that the streets will never love them like I did.
T9E: What’s your favorite album of all time and why?
T: One album?! That isn’t fair. I’m sorry but I don’t have one album that is my favorite of all time. I have several. From old school to new school, Rap, Hip Hop, and R&B. I’ll just say Future’s DS2, Jill Scott’s The Real Thing, and Mint Condition’s Greatest Hits.
T9E: How do you feel your acting experience has helped your music career?
T: Acting and music have equally been strong suits in my life. I went to a performing arts school from fourth toth grade but still continued my acting at my new high school and excelled. Acting just helps me performance wise. I am able to engage with a crowd because I am from the theater. Musical theater was my original major in college. But I graduated with my BA in TV directing/production so it’s a match made in heaven.
T9E: Describe Houston to someone who’s never been there.
T: Hot, big people, horses, cattle, good food. It’s a culture out here in Houston that is very authentic and people just love it.
T9E: What’s a life motto you try to live by?
T: Do good in life so you can live great in the afterlife.
T9E: Female artists like Beyoncé are becoming more sociopolitical in their songs. What’s your perspective on that?
T: I feel that as an artist who have a huge platform like they do, it is a duty of theirs to express the things that are going on in our world.
T9E: What was it like working with Slim Thug?
T: He is a very chill guy. I’ve been around him more than a few times because my producer is his DJ. Very cool and humble. Also inspiring.
T9E: What’s something about you that may surprise people?
T: I’m crazy and loud and funny as hell. I’m like Def Comedy Jam funny. And that I have a slight obsession with my thumb (laughs). You figure that out about the thumb.
T9E: Are you currently working on an album? Tell us about it.
T: The album is actually completed. The title of my album is Rider. I don’t have a date on the release yet but it will be some time this year for sure. It’s a very cool, sexy album. It speaks the ways of what a rider would do for their significant other. And I’ma ride with or without you.
T9E: Who’s your favorite singer of all time and why?
T: Favorite singer of all time would be my mother. She’s the reason I am blessed with the gift of not only song but performance as well. She is the definition of an entertainer.
