2014 will see NaS taking center stage in a rather unexpected place, that place being the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. More after the jump.
The Kennedy Center announced yesterday as part of their 2013-14 performance season, will include a week long Hip Hop festival One Mic: Hip-Hop Culture Worldwide. The festival will open with NaS performing tracks off his classic debut album Illmatic, with musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra. The festival will also feature Puerto Rican musicians Calle 13, Somalian Hip Hop artist K’Naan and a graffiti exhibition among other things.
This will be the Kennedy Center’s first major foray into Hip Hop culture, something they are readily acknowledging. “Hip Hop is clearly something new and different for us,” says Michael M. Kaiser, President of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. “I think to do something very current is important. We’re trying to speak to many different audiences.”
