Steven Tyler Apologizes To Nicki Minaj

Steven Tyler apologized for his misunderstood “cornfield” comment that he made recently when talking about Nicki Minaj’s judging skills on American Idol. More after the jump.

After Tyler made the comment, Nicki Minaj interpreted the comment to have racist undertones, but the Aerosmith singer assured her on eTalk that he in no way intended for his comment to be viewed as racist. He made the comment in reference to what she would’ve done if Bob Dylan came onto American Idol to sing in front of her.

Tyler was pretty much saying that he doesn’t think that Nicki Minaj has enough of an open mind for other musical genres to grasp Dylan’s sound, and thus, she would’ve sent him “back to the cornfield”, or in other words, rejected his audition and stopped his journey from progressing on American Idol.

“I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki. I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don’t know where she got that out of me saying I’m not sure how she would’ve judged Bob Dylan. I said she would have sent [Dylan] to the cornfield, but I only meant if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would’ve been thrown off.

Maybe I spoke out of turn. But a racist I’m not, Nicki.”
