EA Sports was finally ready to give 2K Sports a run for it’s money with the release of NBA Live ’13 which was to drop alongside NBA 2K13, but that impending battle won’t take place AGAIN. I guess this karma for Madden. More after the jump.
On their official EA Sports blog EA’s Andrew Wilson wrote, “Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it’s clear that we won’t be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we’re going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great.”
This is the second time in the past few years that EA Sports has benched their once prominent basketball sports franchise. Back in 2010, EA Sports attempted to reintroduce the franchise as NBA Elite ’11, but soon scrapped it a week before its release. Elements of that and elements of that game were supposed to crossover (sorry for all the lame basketball references) to NBA Live ’13. From Wilson’s post, looks like all that will be onto NBA Live ’14.
Looks like to me that EA Sports is trying to delay the inevitable, which is to just end the entire series. It had a good run, but 2KSports, just like what they did along with 989 Sports to EA’s baseball series has made them obsolete and those sports don’t feel the need to create exclusivity like the NFL did with Madden.
